NICO Group Supports efforts for energy generation growth

NICO Group which includes, NBS Bank and Eris Properties, has Sponsored MK12 million towards the 57th Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA) meetings.

The meetings, which are being hosted by the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO), will provide a platform where various power utilities in Africa will come together to discuss the development of the African electricity sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Group when announcing the sponsorship, NICO General Chief Executive Officer, Donbell Mandala, said the Group felt duty bound to support EGENCO towards this event due to its national importance of improving electricity supply in the country.

“We appreciate the role that EGENCO plays in driving the economy of the country as electricity energy is an enabler of economy growth. Our manufacturing, mining, and agriculture industries, to mention a few, both need energy to operate successfully”, Mandala said.

He added that the NICO Group is an advocate and contributor to national development and that this sponsorship is a further indication of the Group’s commitment towards that drive.

“We believe that EGENCO and its partners will use these meeting to network with key stakeholders and build relationships that support their key strategies as they aspire to grow the energy generation capacity”, he added.

EGENCO Chief Executive Officer, William Liabunya, expressed gratitude towards NICO for the sponsorship.

“This is not the first time that NICO Group has supported us on initiatives that contribute to bettering the energy sector. We are grateful and believe that this sponsorship will go a long way helping us gain more knowledge on what we can do and develop the nations power grid”,Liabunya said.

The Meetings will take place from 3 – 9 June 2023 in Lilongwe.

Established in 1970, the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA) is a continental, non-profit organization that brings together power utilities in Africa as well as African or foreign organizations whose activities contribute to the development of the African electricity sector.
